I had to record this one.
Maddison was having a serious 13 year old meltdown this morning. The tears, the sobbing, the sadness/madness seemed as though it might never end. She finally exploded with a bunch of words all jumbled together that sounded something like "I woke up late. Spanish test. Hour and a half on my hair. Not working. Changed my outfit. I'm so mad. So mad!" Then the final cry "I look like crap!" (sorry about that 'C' word but fact is fact.) Her voice was rising with each blurt and sob and she stomped to the bathroom and loudly shut the door behind her. Cooper sleepily stumbled from his room and snuggled up in my lap. He immediately asked about his sister. I just explained that sometimes girls just get crazy. They need to cry and lose their minds once in awhile. He nodded and said "girls and moms?" I agreed with smile. Then I said at times like this, brothers just need to think of something nice that their sister would like to hear. Cooper nods his head and then sits down to breakfast. Maddie comes out of the bathroom and proceeds to gather up her backpack. Cooper looks up at her and with all of his five year old sweetness says, "Maddie?" He waits for her to acknowledge him and then he says, "you don't look like crap." Maddie thanked him with what I think was a little smile on her lips.
You gotta love the total honesty of a child trying to do the best he can.

So so sweet. It's amazing what they pick up on, isn't it? I love the drama and the kind words - what a true slice of life.

What a sweet boy. That would make any girl smile; even if it's just a little.
